"Wet and stormy weather is in store across much of the Plains, Gulf Coast, Southeast, and Florida through the weekend," the NWS said Friday.

A strong cold front marching eastward into a summerlike air mass will spark scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening across the D.C. area. Along with the potential for heavy rain and frequent lightning, isolated damaging wind or hail is also a threat.
