As young partygoers rang in the New Year at a packed bar in the Swiss Alps, the celebrating quickly turned into a nightmare when a devastating fire tore through the basement, killing at least 40 people and injuring 119 others.
A haunting new photo captured the moment lit sparklers attached to champagne bottles ignited the ceiling at the Le Constellation nightclub in Switzerland.
An official said the sparklers were attached to bottles of champagne held too close to the ceiling. Forty people died and more than 100 were injured. Many of the victims were teenagers.
