TikTok deal expected in days as US prepares to oversee algorithm
The US will finalize a deal giving American oversight of TikTok’s algorithm, balancing national security with the app’s continued US presence.
Oracle will oversee how the algorithm operates in the US to “ensure improper manipulation is prevented,” Bloomberg reported, citing a White House official.
Technology company Oracle will provide security for the new TikTok entity in the United States, following the President Trump-backed deal to allow the social media company to keep operating in the U.S.
The deal sets the stage for the creation of a new US company worth as much as $50 billion that would serve 172 million US users.
If China sells TikTok to a U.S. buyer without its algorithm, users will notice a difference in functionality, experts say.
