A fire of "undetermined origin" broke out at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana at about 1:40 a.m. local time, the Cantonal Police of Valais said in a statement.
Several people were killed and many others injured after an explosive fire broke out during a New Year’s Eve party at a crowded bar in Crans-Montana, a luxury ski resort in the Swiss Alps. More than 100 people were inside as authorities investigate the cause.

Investigators say they believe sparkling candles atop Champagne bottles ignited the fire at a Swiss ski resort when they came too close to the ceiling of a bar crowded with New Year's Eve revelers. Forty people were killed and another 119 injured.
