US stocks fell slightly on Tuesday, as Wall Street tried to regroup after a tech-led slide in the final stretch of 2025.

Volume was higher on the Nasdaq exchange and lower on the New York Stock Exchange vs. Monday. On the Nasdaq exchange, falling stocks outpaced rising issues by nearly 4-to-3. But on the NYSE, winners slightly edged out losers.

The S&P 500, the Dow and the Nasdaq are all within touching distance of record highs, having surged through 2025, with U.S. president Donald Trump predicing a 2026 “boom.” However, as traders brace for the "biggest merger in history, the $3 trillion bitcoin and crypto market could be flashing a warning sign to stocks.

Wall Street opened the final three days of trading in a rollercoaster 2025 that looks likely to end with sizable gains.

Shares of FuelCell Energy declined after the company amended its open market sale agreement to increase the amount of shares of its common stock it can sell. The stock fell 5.6% to $7.50 on Tuesday in after-hours trading. Through market close, shares are down 12% this year.
